OK, the prime knitting weather of the year is almost behind us, but when I came across this site I still got a bit excited. As a knitter (and not a totally ace one at that), I’ve always been a bit jealous of people with crochet skills and their ability to create cute little 3D toys with such ease and panache. Fuzzy Mitten is full of cheap – and some free – knitting patterns for us stitch n bitchers to get our own back. Catering for beginners and intermediate skill levels (yay!), it’s full of pretty toy ideas and instructions. I can’t wait to get started.

Today seems to be my day for strange run-ins with crabs. First a mate tells me about a restaurant in Chinatown that, once a month, serves nothing but crab, because apparently they’re best just before (or after, I forget) the full moon. Then my housemate says I should Google “crab core” – some strange new off-shoot of metal where the guitarists crouch down and move around like crabs when they play. (Try it, it’s real). Now, looking for a little knitting inspiration, I find this fine fella over at knitty. Is the universe trying to tell me something?

There’s plenty of crafty inspiration to be had over at Craft Schmaft. Blogger Claire has a thing for making toys out of socks – just have a look at how cute this owl mobile is! You can have a look back through the blog for instructions and how-tos as well, and start creating your very own sock menagerie.
