We just got a sneak peek at the next Golden Plains line-up and of course wanted to share with you lovely readers. As you may or may not know Golden Plains recently took out the top award of Favourite Festival for the second year running at the Australian Festival Awards, as well as winning Best Management and Facilities. The festival organisers have deliberately kept capacity at the same level making the three-day event filled with cruisy times and excellent tunes. It’s all happening again next March 6, 7 and 8 and line up includes Pavement, Dinosaur Jr, Dirty Projectors (pictured), The Big Pink, Midnight Juggernauts, Tame Impala, Super Wild Horses and a whole bunch more. All the details are at the Golden Plains Music Festival site. First round tickets start selling to subscribers today so subscribe now if you’re keen

Brisbane photographer Hamish Cairns has just come back from the wilds of Pakistan where he’s been taking photos of the Pashtun people, who inhabit the North West Frontier – the frontline for the war on terror since the beginning. Head along to The Francis Rush Centre, 277 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane this Friday night from 7pm to see Hamish’s photos and to help raise much needed funds for the people most affected by the war.

Carrotmob are coming to Sydney this Saturday! For those who missed issue 31, Carrotmob is all about rallying consumers around shops who are making the most socially responsible decisions. Every single one of us has a chance to make a change just by purchasing something we’d purchase anyway. The MFC Supermarket in Surry Hills has pledged to spend 20% of profits made in store on Carrotmob day on “greening” their store. So, bring friends and bombard the store with purchases from 11am to 2pm to support this great cause. You can literally make a real difference just by buying some milk. Head to Carrobmob Sydney for all the deets.

Rachel Cotra, one of the ladies behind shop Fat4 is also a movie buff who likes horror flicks. She chats to frankie about the upcoming hello darkness horror film festival. When is it? Mon Oct 26 to Fri October 31 at acmi (head over to hello darkness for specific screening locations). What is the horror festival? The festival explores the darker side of cinema; ideas around the premise “survival of the fittest”, with programming I hope will re-define the horror genre and open it up to a wider audience. What are you hit picks of the film festival? The Descent is a personal fave and we’re premiering The Descent Part 2, which has just screened at Cannes. The Swedish film Let The Right One In is a beautiful piece too. Favourite horror flick of all time? I’d like to pick one from each era. I’m very fond of the 70s. I love Rosemary’s Baby, Don't Look Now, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
